    Budget Cuts Round Up

    COUNCIL FACING HUGE BILL

    Birmingham City Council could face a legal bill of around £600,000, after the cabinet lost two High Court cases.

    The council was judged to have breached the Disability Discrimination Act, after it proposed to cut funding to disabled adults, affecting around 4,500 adults.

    As a result of the court decision, the council have been ordered to halt the cuts, and to "undertake proper public consultation" before any final decisions are made.

    ARTS COMPANY ATTEMPTING TO BOOST ITS PROFILE

    The Birmingham Royal Ballet Company is currently undertaking a 3-week tour of Japan in order to promote the company and the city of Birmingham.

    The ballet is also trying to boost funds, after Birmingham City Council revealed they were planning to cut up to 15% funding as a result of the budget cuts.

    UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES TUITION FEES INCREASE FOR 2012

    Birmingham City University have recently announced they will be increasing their tuition fees from September 2012.

    Fees will vary from £7.500 for students choosing to study courses such as childcare. Meanwhile, those who are planning to study music and acting can expect to be charged up to £9,000.

    The University say they have been forced to increase their fees as a result of the Government funding cuts.

    COUNCIL JOBS BEGIN TO GO IN DUDLEY

    Dudley is beginning to feel the effects of the recent budget cuts after the council approved 52 redundancies.

    The council will have to lose more than 400 jobs this year in order to save a total of £22million. A total of 800 jobs will have gone by 2014, increasing unemployment further.

    COUNCIL SHUFFLE IN DUDLEY

    Dudley Council has reshuffled its cabinet in order to deal with the impending budget cuts for the area.

    The council needs to cut £22 million from its budget by March 2012.

    1. Instead of taking measures to protect the disabled people, who are less capable to support themselves they try to cut funds even more. For many families cash online loans are the only measure to make their ends meet, I wonder what is further?
